Sylvia is an SCPI registered Podiatrist and clinical lead for the team at Spectrum Health. She holds an MSc in Research in New Healthcare Trends and a BSc in Podiatric Medicine, both obtained from the University of Seville. While there, Sylvia was selected to participate in an internship within the University Podiatry Clinic, further specializing in podiatric surgery. Since then, Sylvia has also completed additional courses in biomechanical assessment, orthotic prescription, nail surgery, local anaesthesia training and ultrasound guided infiltration techniques.
Sylvia has experience in biomechanic assessment and orthotic prescription from her training, volunteer work in marathons/races, as well as from her day-to-day clinical experience. She is proficient in nail surgery techniques and local anaesthesia from her time teaching podiatric surgery at the University of Seville, including assisting her professors perform surgeries in their private practices. She is also knowledgeable in routine treatments such as general footcare, verrucae treatment, tendinopathies affecting the lower limb, diabetic foot care and conservative treatment for ingrown toenails.
Sylvia has had a keen interest in foot pathology and morphology from the age of 12, since the first time she went to see a podiatrist herself for an assessment and custom-made orthotics thus starting her passion for this field. Podiatry is an area of expertise she finds incredibly important as it is all too easy to underestimate its complexity and the role it plays in enabling us to make the most out of life. In her free time, she likes to spend time outdoors in nature, especially on a sunny day; travelling and experiencing different cultures, especially where there’s tasty food; and going to live music, especially when her favourite artists are playing!
