What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a technique based on Traditional Chinese Medicine which successfully treats pain through the insertion of needles at specific acupuncture points to balance the body’s Chi.
Acupuncture is a safe, drug-free intervention and painless procedure in which very fine needles are inserted at particular acupuncture points on the body to relieve the symptoms of various physical and psychological conditions, particularly for both acute injuries and chronic conditions resistant to other treatments.
Our team of Acupuncturists and trained Chartered Physiotherapists assess your condition and treatment goals to develop a treatment plan tailored to you, ensuring you get the most from each session with us. Depending on your needs, our team may suggest a combination of hands-on therapy and acupuncture, or just pure acupuncture.
When Is Acupuncture Used?
Acupuncture may be recommended for:
- Back and neck pain
- Muscle tightness
- Sports injuries
- Joint pain
It is particularly useful when pain limits movement or slows recovery.
It’s Usually Part of a Complete Treatment Plan
Acupuncture is rarely used in isolation. It’s typically combined with:
- Physiotherapy treatment
- Targeted exercises
- Mobility and strengthening work
This helps improve recovery and reduces the chances of the problem returning.

The core benefits of using a Chartered Physiotherapist over other providers of Acupuncture are:
Safe & Clean Environment
Your acupuncture treatment will be carried out in a professional, clean, and safe environment where the highest clinical hygiene standards are upheld.
Give Blood
If you have received acupuncture from anyone other than a Medical Doctor, a registered Nurse or a Chartered Physiotherapist (that’s us), you won’t be able to give blood. This is because the above-listed all practice recognised sterile techniques.
Fully Insured
All our Chartered Physiotherapists are fully insured and regulated by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. This gives you peace of mind that you are in the safest hands.
Highly Trained
Our physios have all been university trained to the highest standards, and all of whom perform acupuncture have completed additional, intensive and highly focused courses.
“By correcting imbalances, medical acupuncture can provide (symptomatic) relief for many symptoms of underlying causes, making it a very effective tool for healing the body as well as a powerful preventative therapy.”
— Anne McGoldrick, Director of Medical Services, Spectrum Health
