Diabetic Neuropathy Treatment

Effective Diabetic Neuropathy Treatment From Our Expert Podiatrists.

Diabetes can cause a person to lose the feeling in their toes and feet. This complication of diabetes often develops in a gradual manner which means that people may not notice it occurring. Losing the feeling in your feet is dangerous because you can hurt yourself more easily.

If you can’t feel, then you don’t know if you are in pain which means you could stand on something sharp or stub your toe causing damage to your feet without even realising it. Diabetic neuropathy can also cause symptoms of pain, numbness, burning or pins and needles.

Symptoms of Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy can present a range of symptoms, including:

  1. Numbness or Tingling: Often in the feet or hands, starting gradually and worsening over time.
  2. Pain or Burning Sensations: Sharp, shooting, or burning pain, especially at night.
  3. Sensitivity to Touch: Increased sensitivity to light touch, leading to discomfort.
  4. Weakness: Muscle weakness in the limbs, which can affect balance and coordination.
  5. Loss of Coordination: Difficulty walking or maintaining balance.
  6. Foot Problems: Ulcers, infections, or deformities due to loss of sensation.
  7. Digestive Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, or constipation related to autonomic nerve damage.
  8. Blood Pressure Changes: Dizziness or lightheadedness upon standing, due to blood pressure regulation issues.

If you have Diabetes it is important for you to monitor the level of feeling you have in your feet so that you can avoid causing unnecessary harm to your feet. Our Podiatrists and Chiropodists can perform regular checks on nerve function in your lower limbs to test your ability to feel pressure and sensation in your feet and toes.

Our Podiatrist can forewarn you if you are losing your feeling in your feet allowing you to prepare for when the feeling is completely gone. Our neuropathy test is pain free and conducted using a tool called a monofilament.

This is a brilliant place to go to if you are anyway nervous or anxious because they make you feel very comfortable before starting and are very chatty and polite. I got treated by a lady called Aoife who was so lovely and kind. I would highly recommend her and the clinic A+++

Using Spectrum Foot Clinics was the best move I ever made regarding having my husbands feet being seen to, he's had diabetes for about nine years and found it difficult to find a suitable chiropodist (as was suggested by his diabetic nurse). I found your Clinic by searching on Google.I phoned in the morning, and made an appointment for that same afternoon, which pleasantly surprised me. The attention and professionalism we received by the podiatrist Saoirse Waldron, was warm, welcoming and reassuring. To anyone who suffers with foot problems, I would highly recommend a visit to your Clinic. I had my own feet seen to on the same day and what a difference it made!!!

Great place. I turned up on time for my appointment and was seen straight away. If only more places were like this. Chiropodist did the examination and assured me nothing much was wrong, this is what I wanted to hear. Very reassured and happy with the service.
