Achilles tendonitis is a condition where the Achilles tendon (the strong tendon behind the ankle that connects the heel bone to the calf) becomes inflamed and causes pain. It is generally caused by overuse or over training especially if the training involved is uphill as this puts an extra strain on the tendon as it has to stretch more.
As well as this, Achilles tendonitis often develops in those that have flat feet as the flatness of the foot puts extra stress on the Achilles tendon.
Struggling with Achilles tendinitis? Our nationwide clinics offer expert treatment to relieve pain and enhance recovery. Donβt let discomfort hold you backβbook your appointment today and start your journey to healing.
With Achilles tendonitis, the tendon becomes inflamed and the skin around the tendon can become quite red and swollen making exercise quite painful. Treatment should be sought as soon as possible to avoid further damage,Β if the Achilles tendon becomes overstretched it can partially tear or completely snap (Achilles tendon rupture).
Our Podiatrists may use manual therapy to immediately relieve some of the swelling and pain you are feeling. They may also prescribe a pair of orthotics (custom designed or off the shelf) to provide support to your foot and the Achilles tendon so that the strain on your Achilles tendon is reduced which will help to relieve the pain felt in Achilles tendonitis. Our podiatrist can offer you advice on the most appropriate footwear, both sporting and normal footwear, to help prevent Achilles tendonitis.
Our Podiatrist can assess your condition to determine the underlying cause of your Achilles tendonitis and from there be able to offer you the most appropriate treatment for your case.
Our Podiatrists are fully qualifed and have extensive experience in the treatment of Achilles Tendonitis, so you can be sure you will receive the best treatment for your condition.
